White matter abnormalities in a patient with visual snow syndrome: New evidence from a diffusion tensor imaging study

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background Visual snow syndrome (VSS) is a neurological condition characterized by flickering dots throughout the entire visual field. Both pathophysiology and possible location of VSS are still under debate. White matter abnormalities were investigated using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in patient with VSS. Methods A 28-year-old 10 healthy controls DTI. Diffusion parametric maps calculated reconstructed q-space diffeomorphic reconstruction. pathways dorsal, ventral, integrative streams thalamic connectivity tracked. Then, they applied to each subject's parameter map, stretched same length, sampled along tracts for regional analyses DTI parameters. Results Compared controls, our displayed higher axial diffusivity (AD) radial (RD) dorsal stream (cingulum, arcuate fasciculus, horizontal indirect anterior segment superior longitudinal fasciculus), ventral (fronto-occipital inferior fasciculus) (indirect posterior component vertical occipital fasciculus). Higher AD RD also detected acoustic optic radiations, radiations distal thalamus. Conclusion This multiple, bilateral white changes temporo-parieto-occipital junction related vision. We encourage study pathology complex syndromes including

Evaluation of White Matter Tracts in Autistic Individuals: A Review of Diffusion Tensor Imaging Studies

Introduction: Many cognitive and social deficits in autism are caused by abnormal functional connections between brain networks, which are manifested by impaired integrity of white matter tracts. White matter tracts are like the "highways" of the brain, which allow fast and efficient communication in different areas of the brain. The purpose of this article is to review the results of autism st...

White Matter Abnormalities in Boys with Autism Spectrum Disorders: Preliminary evidence from Diffusion Tensor Imaging

Introduction Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are characterized by qualitative impairments of reciprocal social interaction and deficits in communication, and stereotyped or repetitive pattern of behavior. ADS inclued autism, pervasive developmental not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. The neurobiological pathogenesis of ASD is still unknown and unclear, but several neuroimag...

White matter abnormalities in adolescents with generalized anxiety disorder: a diffusion tensor imaging study

BACKGROUND Previous neuroimaging studies have suggested an abnormal neural circuitry of emotion regulation including the amygdala and prefrontal cortex in both adult and adolescent generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) patients. Aberrant integrity of white matter in this neural circuitry has been verified in adult GAD patients. White matter abnormalities in adolescent GAD patients have not been de...

Frontotemporal white-matter microstructural abnormalities in adolescents with conduct disorder: a diffusion tensor imaging study.

BACKGROUND Children with conduct disorder (CD) are at increased risk of developing antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) and psychopathy in adulthood. The biological basis for this is poorly understood. A preliminary diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) study of psychopathic antisocial adults reported significant differences from controls in the fractional anisotropy (FA) of th...

Prefrontal white matter abnormalities in young adult with major depressive disorder: a diffusion tensor imaging study.

Prefrontal impairments have been hypothesized to be most strongly associated with the cognitive and emotional dysfunction in depression. Recently, white matter microstructural abnormalities in prefrontal lobe have been reported in elderly patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). However, it is still unclear whether the same changes exist in younger pat...
